LED display warranty in Nepal explained: what is and isn’t covered

An LED display warranty covers failures caused by manufacturing defects — modules, power supplies, receiving cards and controllers that fail in normal use — for a stated period. It does not cover damage from outside causes such as lightning, flooding, physical impact or unauthorised modification. For the LED lines we supply, that means a two-year manufacturer warranty honoured locally with spares held in Kathmandu; for our Evolve Signage LCD line it is one year. What matters most is not the number of years but who honours it, where, and how quickly.

What does an LED display warranty normally cover?

A manufacturer warranty normally covers components that fail because of a defect in materials or manufacture during normal use. On an LED wall those are the LED modules, the power supplies, the receiving cards, the sending card or controller, and the cabinet hardware.

In practice the common warranty events are a module with a dead section or colour fault, a power supply that stops feeding part of a cabinet, or a receiving card that drops a block of the image. Each is a modular replacement: a technician swaps the part, recalibrates if needed, and the screen is whole again.

What is usually excluded?

Exclusions cover damage the manufacturer did not cause. The usual list is lightning strike, power surges beyond the equipment’s rating, flooding and water ingress through damage, impact, vandalism, fire, unauthorised opening or modification, and use outside the stated conditions.

Consumables and services are often excluded too: content, software set-up changes, cleaning and routine adjustments. Read the exclusions list in the warranty document rather than the summary in a quotation, and ask your supplier how they handle a borderline case — a module that failed after a storm, for example — before you sign.

Why does it matter where the warranty is honoured?

Where the warranty is honoured matters more than its length, because a warranty you must ship abroad is slow, expensive and often abandoned. If a failed module has to be removed, packed, sent overseas, assessed and returned, the screen can sit with a black square for weeks, and freight and customs can cost more than the part.

A warranty honoured locally means the supplier carries spares in Nepal and swaps the part on site. That is the model we use: the two-year manufacturer warranty on our LED displays is honoured in Nepal, with spares held in Kathmandu. Ask any supplier where the spares are, who replaces them, and how long a typical response takes outside the valley.

How do spares and batch matching affect a warranty?

Spares should come from the same production batch as your screen, because LEDs from different batches differ slightly in colour and brightness. A replacement module from another batch can be visibly different, especially on a white or flat-colour background.

That is why a good supply includes a set of batch-matched spare modules, power supplies and receiving cards, kept either on site or with the supplier. When a warranty swap uses a matched spare, the repair is invisible. Ask for the spares list in writing with your quote, including quantities of each part and where they will be stored.

What can void an LED display warranty?

The most common ways to lose warranty cover are unauthorised repairs, modifications, and running the screen in conditions it was not designed for. Letting an unqualified electrician open cabinets, swapping in non-original power supplies, or running an indoor screen behind hot shop glass in full sun can all count.

Poor power is the Nepal-specific risk. Repeated voltage spikes, brownouts and uncontrolled generator changeovers damage power supplies; most warranties exclude surge damage, so protection is your responsibility. Proper earthing, surge protection and a sensible changeover arrangement protect both the screen and your cover. For outdoor screens, IP65 sealing front and rear and a correctly installed structure keep monsoon water out.

What happens after the warranty ends?

After the warranty ends, repairs are charged per call unless you have an annual maintenance contract. An AMC typically covers scheduled inspections, cleaning, recalibration and priority response, and may include parts or charge them separately.

For screens that matter to daily operations — a control room, a DOOH billboard selling slots, a ward office information screen — an AMC is usually worth considering. Our guide on AMCs explains what to look for. If you want the detailed terms for the Lampro line, the Lampro Nepal FAQ covers common warranty questions; for any of our lines, ask us and we will show you the warranty document before you order.

The short version

  • An LED warranty covers manufacturing defects, not external damage such as lightning, flooding or impact.
  • Our LED displays carry a two-year manufacturer warranty honoured locally; Evolve Signage LCD carries one year.
  • Where the warranty is honoured and where spares are held matter more than the number of years.
  • Batch-matched spares make warranty repairs invisible on screen.
  • Surge damage is usually excluded, so power protection is the owner’s job in Nepal.
  • After the warranty, an AMC keeps response times and costs predictable.

Common questions

How long is the warranty on an LED display in Nepal?

It varies by supplier and brand. The LED displays we supply carry a two-year manufacturer warranty, honoured locally with spares held in Kathmandu, and our Evolve Signage LCD line carries one year. Always check who honours the warranty and where, not just the length.

Does an LED screen warranty cover lightning or power surge damage?

Usually not. Most LED warranties exclude damage from lightning, surges, flooding and other external causes. Proper earthing, surge protection and controlled generator changeover are the owner’s best protection, especially on Nepal’s grid.

What happens if an LED module fails under warranty?

The supplier replaces the failed module, ideally with a batch-matched spare so the colour matches the rest of the screen, and recalibrates if needed. With spares held locally this is a site visit rather than an overseas shipment.

Can I repair my LED screen myself without losing the warranty?

Opening cabinets or swapping parts without the supplier’s authorisation typically voids warranty cover. Basic content and settings changes are fine, but hardware work should be done by the supplier or with their written agreement.

Is a longer LED warranty always better?

Not necessarily. A longer warranty that has to be honoured overseas can be less useful than a shorter one honoured locally with spares in stock. Ask where the spares are kept, who carries out repairs and what the typical response time is.
