What usually goes wrong on this kind of project, and why it is worth specifying around.

A screen that vanishes at kickoff

An afternoon fixture puts direct sun across the stands and onto the screen. A display specified at indoor brightness simply disappears — not dimmed, genuinely unreadable — for the part of the day when most matches are played. It is the single most common and most expensive specification error in outdoor sport.

Scan lines and flicker on broadcast

Low refresh looks fine in the stand and broken on television.

Cameras sample the screen faster than the eye does. If the refresh rate is too low, the broadcast picks up rolling dark bands across the screen and the perimeter boards strobe, which makes the footage unusable and puts your sponsors' inventory on television looking broken. The screen can look perfectly fine in the stadium and still fail on camera.

Monsoon, dust and what they do to a joint

Nepal's monsoon drives water horizontally, and the dry season fills everything with dust. A cabinet rated only on the front, or sealed with a gasket that has not been specified for UV, will admit moisture at the joints within a season or two. Corrosion at the connectors is what kills outdoor screens here, not the diodes.

Player safety and impact at pitch level

Rigid boards at the touchline are an injury and a liability problem.

Perimeter boards sit exactly where players collide with them at speed. A rigid board with hard edges is a genuine injury risk and a liability question, and one impact can take out a run of cabinets in the middle of a broadcast fixture.

Enough output to stay saturated in direct afternoon sun, paired with an ambient light sensor that pulls brightness down as the light drops. That second part matters as much as the first: running an outdoor screen at full output after dark wastes power and produces glare that annoys the crowd and blows out the broadcast exposure.

It films cleanly — which is what makes perimeter boards sellable.

High refresh eliminates the scan lines and flicker a camera would otherwise pick up, so the screen films cleanly at normal shutter speeds and slow-motion replay still holds together. This is what makes perimeter boards a sellable broadcast asset rather than just something the crowd can see.

    We come to the site and measure it — viewing distances, ambient light, sightlines, wall or ground conditions, and where the power and data will run. Free, and it is what makes the rest of the quote real rather than estimated.

    Structural design

    Mounting is engineered alongside the display, not after it. Steel structures are fabricated to suit the site, which for outdoor work means wind loading and foundations as much as the screen itself.

    Specification & quotation

    Pitch, size, brightness and IP rating chosen for how the screen will actually be used, then quoted as a complete system — panels, processing, structure, cabling and commissioning — so nothing surfaces later as an extra.

    Supply

    Genuine Unilumin product with CE and RoHS certification and full manufacturer authorisation — the documentation set government tenders require, which we hold from previous work.

    Installation

FAQ

What brightness does an outdoor stadium screen actually need?

6,000 nits is the realistic floor for a screen facing daylight; 8,000–10,000 gives you headroom for direct sun on the screen face. Anything specified at indoor levels will be unreadable during afternoon fixtures, and no amount of processing recovers it.

Why does refresh rate matter if it looks fine to the eye?

Because the camera is the customer. Below roughly 3,840 Hz, broadcast cameras capture horizontal banding and flicker that the eye never sees, which devalues every second of sponsor exposure your perimeter boards generate.

What pixel pitch for perimeter versus a main screen?

Perimeter boards are viewed from tens of metres by the crowd but close-up by pitch-side cameras, so P2.5–P4 is typical. A main screen viewed from across the bowl can go much coarser — P6–P10 — because the viewing distance does the work.

Can the screens pay for themselves?

That is the normal model for perimeter and ribbon: they are sold as timed sponsorship inventory across a season. The commercial case usually rests on rotation rate and broadcast minutes rather than on the screen area itself.

How does it hold up through monsoon?

IP65 front and rear with UV-stable sealing and designed drainage is the specification that matters. Ask any supplier specifically whether the rating applies to both faces — a front-only rating is common and is not sufficient here.

What happens if a player runs into the boards?

Soft masking absorbs the impact and the raked profile deflects rather than blocks. Modules are front-serviceable, so a damaged section is swapped from the pitch side rather than requiring access behind the run.
