LED screens for weddings in Nepal
6 min read · Updated October 2026
An LED screen at a Nepali wedding or reception usually does three things: it forms a backdrop with the couple’s names and photos, it plays pre-wedding videos and slideshows, and in a large hall it shows a live camera feed so guests at the back can see the ceremony. For a good result, choose a pitch suited to how close guests sit, make sure the screen is flicker-free for the videographer, keep it on its own stable power, and agree the set-up time with the décor team and venue.
What is an LED screen used for at a wedding?
Wedding screens are used as a stage backdrop, for photo and video playback, and for live feeds of the ceremony and speeches. Many families use the same screen for all three at different moments of the evening.
As a backdrop, the screen shows the couple’s names, a monogram or a slowly moving design that matches the décor. Between rituals, it plays pre-wedding films and childhood photos. During the main moments — the garland exchange, sindoor, speeches, the cake — a live camera feed lets every guest see what is happening on stage.
Screens also help when family members cannot attend. A video greeting from relatives abroad, or a live video call shown on the screen at the right moment, has become a common and much-appreciated part of receptions.
What size and pixel pitch should I choose?
Choose a screen that suits the stage and hall without overwhelming them, with a pitch fine enough for guests sitting close. In a typical hotel ballroom or party palace, front tables are only a few metres from the stage, so an indoor rental screen with a fairly fine pitch looks best.
The general rule is that pitch in millimetres roughly equals the closest comfortable viewing distance in metres. If the front row of chairs is three metres away, a coarse outdoor pitch will look grainy to the closest family members — exactly the people who matter most.
For long halls or open grounds, a second screen partway down the venue showing the live feed is often more useful than one oversized backdrop.
Will the screen look good in photos and video?
It will if the screen has a high refresh rate and its brightness is set for the room rather than run at maximum. Wedding videographers and photographers will film the stage for hours, so a screen that flickers on camera ruins the footage the family keeps.
Ask for 3,840 Hz or higher refresh, and ask the technician to coordinate with the videographer during set-up. A screen that is too bright behind the couple turns them into silhouettes on camera and overwhelms the stage lighting; the right brightness is usually well below the screen’s maximum indoors.
Content colours matter too. Very bright white backgrounds behind the couple make faces hard to expose correctly; deeper, warmer tones photograph more kindly.
Can a wedding LED screen be used outdoors?
Yes, with outdoor-rated rental cabinets, enough brightness for the time of day and a plan for weather. Daytime ceremonies in a courtyard or lawn need much more brightness than evening receptions, and indoor cabinets should never be used in the open.
Wedding seasons in Nepal mostly fall outside the monsoon, but evening dew, dust and unexpected showers still happen. Make sure the processor and power connections are covered, the screen is properly braced against wind, and the ground under the structure is firm.
Outdoor screens also need generous clearance from guests, because children will inevitably try to touch them.
How should power and set-up be planned?
Give the screen its own stable power supply, separate from the DJ and lighting, and agree the set-up slot with the venue and décor team well in advance. Shared generators that are overloaded when the music starts are the commonest cause of screens going dark at receptions.
Party palaces and hotels in the Kathmandu Valley often host several functions a day during the wedding season, so the set-up window can be tight. The screen usually goes up before the floral and fabric décor is finished, and both teams need to know who goes first. The muhurta timing is fixed; the screen must be tested and ready well before it.
Some venues now have permanent screens — Nabil Foodland & Party Palace in Narayantar, for instance, has a P4 LED screen installed. If your venue has one, ask its resolution and inputs early so content is prepared to fit.
How should wedding content be prepared?
Prepare content at the screen’s exact resolution, keep backdrop designs calm, and send everything to the technician a day ahead. Content made for a television or phone screen will often appear stretched or with black bars on an LED wall.
Ask the rental company for the screen’s resolution in pixels and pass it to whoever designs the backdrop and edits the videos. Plan the running order with the master of ceremonies — when the backdrop shows, when videos play, when the live feed takes over — and give the technician a printed copy.
Bring content on two separate drives and test every item on the screen during set-up. If you are hiring, our guide on what to ask before booking LED rental covers the questions to settle first; for a permanent venue screen, we survey party palaces and banquet halls free.
The short version
- Wedding screens serve as a backdrop, for photo and video playback, and for live feeds of the ceremony.
- Front guests sit close, so choose an indoor rental pitch fine enough for a few metres’ viewing.
- Ask for 3,840 Hz or higher refresh and keep brightness well below maximum for good photos and video.
- Use outdoor-rated cabinets only for open-air ceremonies, with bracing and weather cover.
- Power the screen separately from the DJ and lighting, and agree set-up timing with venue and décor teams.
- Prepare content at the screen’s exact resolution and test it the day before.
Common questions
How much space does a wedding LED screen need?
That depends on the stage and hall. The screen should fit the stage without blocking décor or overwhelming the room, with enough clearance behind for cabling and technicians. A site visit with the venue plan is the reliable way to size it.
Which LED screen is best for a wedding reception in Kathmandu?
For a ballroom or party palace, an indoor rental screen with a fairly fine pixel pitch suits guests sitting a few metres away. It should have a high refresh rate for videographers and be run at moderate brightness rather than maximum.
Will an LED screen flicker in wedding videos?
It can if the refresh rate is low. Ask for a screen with 3,840 Hz or higher refresh and have the technician check the picture with the videographer’s camera during set-up.
Can we show a live video call from relatives abroad on the wedding screen?
Yes. A laptop running the call can be connected to the screen’s processor, ideally with a wired internet connection. Test the call and audio in advance and have a recorded video message as backup in case the connection is weak.
Can we use an LED screen for an outdoor wedding in Nepal?
Yes, with outdoor-rated rental cabinets sealed against weather, enough brightness for the time of day, firm footing and proper bracing. Keep the processor and power connections covered and guests at a safe distance.
What content should we prepare for a wedding LED screen?
Typically a backdrop design with names or a monogram, a photo slideshow, pre-wedding films and any messages from relatives. Create everything at the screen’s exact resolution, keep backdrops calm, and bring two copies on separate drives.
