LED displays for schools and colleges in Nepal
6 min read · Updated October 2026
Schools and colleges in Nepal use LED displays in three main places: the assembly hall or auditorium, the main entrance for notices and announcements, and seminar or lecture halls. An indoor wall around P2.5–P3 suits most halls, an outdoor P4-class screen with automatic on/off suits an entrance notice board, and classrooms are usually better served by interactive flat panels than by LED. The decisions that matter most in education are safety, simple content control and a budget that covers installation and support, not just the panels.
Where does an LED display make sense in a school or college?
The assembly hall and the main entrance are where LED gives the most value in education. Halls host assemblies, prize days, cultural programmes, guest lectures and parent meetings; the entrance is where parents, students and visitors look for notices.
A hall screen replaces the projector-and-sheet arrangement that struggles with daylight and is always being set up. An entrance screen replaces the paper notice board and makes exam schedules, holiday notices and achievements visible to everyone who walks in.
Classrooms are different. A teacher and thirty students at short range need high resolution and usually touch, which is the job of an interactive flat panel. Our partner AudioVisual Nepal covers classroom technology; LED is best kept for the shared spaces.
What specification suits an assembly hall or auditorium?
Most school and college halls are well served by an indoor LED wall in the P2.5–P3 range, sized to the stage. Viewers sit several metres away, so a finer pitch adds cost without adding visible sharpness.
Two of our education projects show the range. Jeevan Jyoti School in Kohalpur, Banke, has an indoor P3 wall of 266 sq ft for its hall; Reliance College in Chabahil uses an indoor P2.5 display. Both are sized to be read from the back of the room, not just the front rows.
Ask for a refresh rate of 3,840 Hz or higher. Programmes are filmed on parents’ phones and often shared online, and a low-refresh wall appears as flicker and bands in every video.
How should an entrance notice display be specified?
An entrance notice display is an outdoor screen and must be specified as one: daylight brightness and IP65 sealing front and rear. A board that faces the gate in the monsoon cannot use indoor hardware.
One of our installations is a P4 outdoor display of 3×1.5 m at a private school entrance in the Kathmandu Valley. It switches on and off automatically between 6am and 9pm, so nobody needs to remember to turn it on and it does not glow over the neighbourhood at night.
Pitch follows reading distance. If parents read from the gate a few metres away, P4 gives clear text; if the screen faces a road and is read from further away, a coarser pitch is acceptable and less costly.
What safety points matter most in a school installation?
Safety comes first: the screen must be mounted for earthquake loads, out of reach of children, and with cabling and power fully enclosed. Students are curious and energetic, and a hall full of them is the worst place for an exposed cable or a loose cabinet.
Mount wall screens on engineered structures fixed into the building’s load-bearing elements rather than into partition walls, and keep the lower edge high enough that it cannot be leaned on or struck by a ball. Ground-standing frames need anchoring, not just weight.
Power should come from a dedicated, protected circuit with surge protection, and the control equipment should sit in a locked rack. That protects both the students and the equipment from tampering.
Who manages the content, and how simple should it be?
Content control should be simple enough for an administrative staff member to manage in minutes. If updating the screen needs the IT teacher every time, the display soon shows last month’s notice.
A cloud CMS lets the office schedule notices, upload event photos and set the timetable from a browser. Templates in Nepali and English with the school’s branding keep everything consistent and readable.
For the hall, keep a straightforward HDMI or wireless input at the stage so teachers and guest speakers can plug in a laptop without help. A clear, laminated instruction card beside the input saves many phone calls.
How should schools and colleges budget and procure an LED display?
Budget for a complete installed system — screen, structure, power protection, control, installation and support — not just a price per square metre of panels. A cheap quote that leaves out the structure or the commissioning is not cheaper in the end.
Colleges and larger institutions often procure through a tender. Make sure the specification sets the pitch, brightness, IP rating front and rear, refresh rate and warranty, and asks for documents such as manufacturer authorisation, CE and RoHS certificates and work completion certificates. Our tender specification guide covers this in detail.
Plan the installation around the academic calendar. A standard wall takes two to three days on site, so the winter break or the gap after exams is a natural window. We offer a free site survey before any firm quote.
The short version
- LED works best in shared school spaces; classrooms usually suit interactive flat panels.
- Most assembly halls are well served by indoor P2.5–P3 walls sized to the stage.
- Entrance notice boards are outdoor screens and need IP65 front and rear.
- Automatic on/off schedules keep entrance screens useful and considerate.
- Earthquake-rated mounting, enclosed cabling and locked control racks are essential.
- Specify refresh of 3,840 Hz or more because school events are filmed.
Common questions
Which LED screen is best for a school assembly hall in Nepal?
An indoor LED wall in the P2.5–P3 range, sized to the stage and readable from the back row, suits most halls. It should have a refresh rate of 3,840 Hz or higher so programmes filmed on phones do not show flicker.
Can a school use an LED display as a digital notice board?
Yes. An outdoor P4-class display at the entrance works well as a notice board, provided it has daylight brightness and IP65 sealing front and rear. Automatic on/off scheduling, for example from early morning to evening, keeps it running without staff intervention.
Is an LED screen or a smart board better for classrooms?
For classrooms, an interactive flat panel is usually better, because students view from close range and teachers need touch. LED is best used in halls, auditoriums and entrances where many people view from a distance.
How do schools update content on an LED display?
Most use a cloud content management system that lets office staff upload notices and schedule playback from a browser. Templates in Nepali and English make updates quick and keep the screen consistent.
What documents should a college ask for in an LED display tender?
Ask for manufacturer authorisation, CE and RoHS certificates, work completion certificates from previous projects, and a clear warranty statement. The specification itself should set pitch, brightness, IP rating front and rear, refresh rate and support terms.
How long does it take to install an LED wall in a school?
A standard installation of roughly 2×1.5 m to 4×2.5 m takes two to three days on site, including the structure. Larger or more complex walls can take five to seven days, so schools often schedule work during a break.
